Data, energy usage, and savings

GreenStar PCs are engineered to reduce electricity consumption. The average computer uses anywhere from 200 to 400 watts. By comparison, a GreenStar Lite uses only 40 watts. That's less than a standard light bulb! We have done a few calculations to show you the difference between using a GreenStar Computer and a regular computer (at 270 watts).

This graph shows the idle wattage of an average computer vs. that of an average laptop and vs. GreenStar PCs. The wattage for the typical computer may vary based on use and configuration.

Many bargain computers that are available from large companies and stores are built with very inefficient power supplies to cut production costs. Unfortunately this ends up costing customers in the long run. GreenStar PCs understands the value of using high quality, efficient components that help save customers money.

This next graph shows the cost of running a typical computer for one year vs. the cost of running a GreenStar Lite for the same amount of time. These numbers are based on using the computer for 6 hours per day, 7 days a week at a cost of $0.13/kWh.

As you can see, the typical computer costs 6 times more to run per year. The GreenStar Lite however, can be run for less than $10 a year, or $0.73 a month! Are you beginning to see the benefits of GreenStar PCs?

Another aspect which some people may be concerned with is the amount of carbon dioxide these computers produce. Based on the previously stated energy rates, the typical computer will produce 8641 pounds of carbon dioxide per year. (Source: Environmental Protection Agency)

Unfortunately everything that uses electricity produces carbon dioxide, including GreenStar PCs. So to compensate for the carbon dioxide that GreenStar PCs use, each computer we sell comes with a 2 ton carbon offset. To make things even better, the customer has the choice of applying that carbon offset towards either planting trees, renewable energy, or energy conservation.
