Explaining 80 PLUS®, RoHS, ENERGY STAR®, & Carbon Offsets
GreenStar PCs
We hope to reduce the harmful effects of electronics waste by offering people computers that use less energy, contain fewer harmful substances, and produce less greenhouse gases. GreenStar PCs are built to last with quality components. We also offer free computer recycling to all of our customers to help decrease the amount of electronic waste in landfills.
What is RoHS?
RoHS stands for the restriction of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Some of the chemicals it restricts are lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and polybrominated biphenyl. Though RoHS requires European companies to comply, the
What is 80 PLUS?
The 80 PLUS performance specification requires power supplies in computers and servers to be 80% or greater energy efficiency at 20%, 50% and 100% load. This makes an 80 PLUS certified power supply substantially more efficient than typical power supplies used by most major PC manufacturers. All GreenStar PCs are built with 80 PLUS certified power supplies.
What is ENERGY STAR?
ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy that helps save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. All base model GreenStar PCs are ENERGY STAR approved.
What are Carbon Offsets?
Carbon offsets help cancel the effect of CO2 production from using electricity by reforestation, energy conservation, or investing in renewable energy. While carbon offsets are not the end all solution to global warming, they do make a difference. GreenStar PCs computers come with carbon offsets from Carbon Fund to help offset the CO2 they produce.
